Tomten Farm and Sanctuary in Haverhill, N.H., recently rescued a severely neglected 22-year-old Standardbred stallion, formerly known as Days of Courage, from a dire situation on a New York farm where he and other animals were confined in filthy, unsafe conditions. The rescue involved multiple organizations, including Dorset Equine Rescue and the NHSPCA, who coordinated veterinary care and transport. The stallion, now called the Forgotten Stallion until a new name is chosen by community vote, has shown remarkable recovery under Tomten’s care, gaining over 50 pounds since arrival.
Founded in 2014 by Jenifer Vickery, Tomten Farm provides permanent sanctuary for over 100 animals and relies heavily on community support and fundraising to cover high costs, especially during winter. Despite financial and space challenges, the sanctuary remains committed to rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need. The story highlights the power of collaboration among rescue groups and the community’s role in giving neglected animals a second chance at life.
