The Asakusa Yabusame archery event, a traditional horseback archery competition rooted in the Edo era, will be held on April 18 in Sumida Park, Taito City. The event features two main parts: the kusajishi, a free archery contest where participants shoot at deer-shaped targets dressed in traditional attire, and the primary yabusame event, where archers in Kamakura samurai hunting clothes gallop and shoot at three targets consecutively. Successful shooters receive prizes, and this main event requires paid tickets, which include commemorative items.
This annual event remains a popular cultural attraction, showcasing the elegance and skill of traditional Japanese horseback archery. Kusajishi runs from 11:45 to 12:45 at Yamaya-bori Plaza, while the main yabusame event takes place from 13:00 to 14:30 in a special riding arena. Tickets for the yabusame can be purchased online or at Taito City Hall.
