In response to escalating particulate pollution and wildfire risks in northern Thailand, the Royal Thai Army has deployed a special task unit in Chiang Mai’s forests that patrols on horseback. This unique approach allows soldiers to access remote areas more effectively to prevent wildfires and reduce the spread of toxic PM2.5 particles threatening local communities.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel Sukhum Paetyarak of the Animal Battalion, the mounted patrols focus on early detection and intervention in wildfire-prone zones. By combining traditional methods with dedicated personnel, the army aims to curb pollution levels before they escalate into a severe environmental and public health crisis.
