Tenma Set as Favorite in Grade 3 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita

Tenma, a Grade 1 winner, will be the favorite in the Grade 3 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita as she makes her 3-year-old debut. Trained by Bob Baffert, Tenma has previously won the Del Mar Debutante and the Starlet, and will be looking for another graded-stakes victory. She will be ridden by Juan Hernández and is owned by Charles Chu’s Baoma Corp.

Joining Tenma in the Las Virgenes Stakes is stablemate Cipriani, who has not raced since a debut win at Del Mar in October. Cipriani, a daughter of Bernardini, will be ridden by Martín García and is still considered green and immature by Baffert. Just as Fancy and Our Moonlight are also contenders in the race, with Just as Fancy coming off a maiden win and Our Moonlight winning her debut at Santa Anita.

The Las Virgenes Stakes is part of Santa Anita’s 3-year-old fillies series leading up to the Santa Anita Oaks and awards points towards the Kentucky Oaks. Tenma will be seeking her third graded-stakes win and will face competition from Cipriani, Just as Fancy, and Our Moonlight in the race.
