At the Annual Hashknife Colt Sale near Flagstaff, 18-year-old Taylor Goin, a valedictorian and four-time world champion in mounted shooting from Texas, aimed to purchase a filly to raise and train for competition. Although the family missed out on their first choice—a record-setting $19,000 blue roan bay filly sold to an Ohio buyer—they successfully acquired two other fillies, intending to develop them into a mounted shooting horse, a team roping horse, and a range cow horse. The Goins were drawn to Babbitt Ranches horses for their toughness, big bones, and endurance, qualities rare in Texas horses.
The event also touched the hearts of other attendees, including Kent Graymountain and Jennifer Benally from Tuba City, who unexpectedly bought a sorrel horse as a birthday gift for their great-granddaughter, Rea Bennett, who loves horses and aspires to be a veterinarian. Ranch Manager Clay Rodgers praised the community effort that makes the Colt Sale a cherished and enjoyable tradition, highlighting the quality and spirit of the horses and the people involved.
