Tampa Bay Downs Kicks Off Centennial Season with Thrilling Horse Racing and Career Milestones

Tampa Bay Downs kicked off its 100th season this weekend, drawing hundreds of fans to the historic Westchase track, which opened in 1926. The track remains a key venue for live horse racing in Florida, alongside Gulfstream Park, and is cherished by jockeys and fans alike for its competitive spirit and vibrant atmosphere. Jockeys like Peru native Pablo Morales, who has been riding there for 15 years, and Venezuelan Samuel Marin, who won four races on opening day, highlighted the excitement and unpredictability of the sport. Morales, aiming to reach 3,000 career wins by 2026, emphasized the privilege of racing at such a historic and competitive track.

The centennial season includes special events such as free admission days and the upcoming 100-year anniversary celebrations on February 13-14, with the Tampa Bay Derby Day set for March 7. The track continues to attract a loyal fan base, including snowbirds and local supporters, who enjoy the live racing experience in Florida’s favorable weather.
