Super Shaq: From Amish Workhorse to World’s Champion Roadster

Super Shaq, a half Dutch Harness Horse and half Standardbred gelding owned and driven by Melissa Moore of Versailles, Kentucky, has risen from humble beginnings as an Amish buggy horse to become a legendary figure in the road horse world. Initially challenging to train due to his size and energy, Shaq found his perfect niche pulling a heavier four-wheeled wagon rather than a lightweight bike, which allowed his natural power and animation to shine. This adjustment helped him capture the hearts of fans and professionals alike, earning him two consecutive Overall Roadster of the Year awards from the United Professional Horsemen’s Association and multiple championship titles, including the prestigious World’s Champion of Champions.

Despite his commanding presence and success in competition, Super Shaq is known for his gentle and affectionate nature, endearing him further to his community and owner. Moore cherishes his transformation from a hardworking Amish horse to a celebrated show champion, a journey she has experienced with other horses as well. While Moore contemplates the future of their showing career after achieving her lifelong dream, Shaq continues to enjoy his work and captivate audiences, securing his place as a beloved figure in the equestrian world.
