Suffolk Punch Trust Restructures to Focus on Core Breeding at Historic Colony Stud

The Suffolk Punch Trust has announced a major restructure to focus exclusively on its core breeding, training, and livery services at The Colony Stud in Hollesley, home to the Suffolk Punch horse since 1759. This “slimmed-down” approach comes in response to economic challenges and aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the critically endangered Suffolk Punch breed. As part of the changes, the Visitor Centre, café, and shop have closed immediately, though the Trust remains optimistic about the future and plans to host an open day later this year.

Established in 2002 to protect the historic Suffolk Punch breed and stud, the Trust purchased The Colony Stud and surrounding land in 2006 to prevent the dispersal of the horses and maintain the world’s longest-established Suffolk Punch breeding operation. The restructure builds on the stud’s successful history and is designed to secure its economic viability while continuing to support the breed’s preservation.
