The Wyoming Department of Corrections and the Bureau of Land Management successfully placed 45 gentled wild horses and burros for adoption during an event in Riverton, Wyoming, attracting over 350 attendees from various states. Both repeat and new adopters participated, highlighting the growing interest in these animals.
A new trail course was introduced at the event, showcasing the training capabilities of the horses and burros from the Wyoming Honor Farm. The highest bid for a horse was $6,500 for a saddle-trained mare named Susan, with the average price for riding horses around $3,300. The animals available included various trained horses and burros.
The Honor Farm and BLM have collaborated for 37 years, successfully placing over 4,500 animals into private homes. Two adoption events are held annually, with the next one scheduled for September 12-13, 2025. Interested individuals can find more information on adopting through the BLM’s website or by contacting their national information center.
