Successful Adoption Event Places 45 Wild Horses and Burros in New Homes

The Wyoming Department of Corrections and the Bureau of Land Management successfully placed 45 gentled wild horses and burros for adoption during an event attended by over 350 people from Wyoming and beyond. The event featured a newly built trail course that showcased the animals’ training and abilities, highlighting the work done at the Wyoming Honor Farm.

The highest bid for an animal was $6,500 for a saddle-trained 4-year-old mare named Susan, while the average price for a riding horse was around $3,300. The adoption included various trained animals, such as saddle, halter, and pack horses, as well as burros suitable for multiple tasks.

The Honor Farm and BLM have collaborated for 37 years, successfully placing over 4,500 animals into private homes. The next adoption event is scheduled for September 12-13, 2025, and interested individuals can find more information on the BLM website or contact their national information center.
