On July 4, 2025, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible animal abuse at a remote property in Storey County, Nevada, where they found approximately 18 horses and burros in poor health. An investigation was launched, and local horse advocacy groups along with the Department of Agriculture were contacted to coordinate resources. The sheriff’s office assisted the property owner in providing immediate food and water to the animals.
On July 7, 2025, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office, Wild Horse Connection, and LRTC Large Animal Rescue safely removed all the horses and burros from the property and transported them to Dayton, Nevada for veterinary care and rehabilitation. The investigation remains active, and further updates will be provided upon its completion. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to the rescue organizations for their critical assistance.
