The Stillwater Public Education Foundation (SPEF) has supported the introduction of a new Equine Science class for 10th-12th graders within the Stillwater FFA program, which began in the spring semester of 2025. Taught by Agriculture Educator Bailey Kliewer at the district’s agricultural facilities, the class covers horse care basics, including breeds and tack management, with hands-on learning facilitated by two saddles and other equipment donated by SPEF. Despite most students not owning horses due to the long-term commitment and costs involved, the class aims to build confidence and practical skills in handling horses.
The Equine Science class complements other agricultural courses offered by the district and provides valuable experience even for students without personal horses. Kliewer emphasizes the importance of teaching students how to safely manage and saddle horses, giving them a unique advantage and fostering a deeper understanding of equine care. SPEF’s contributions have been crucial in equipping the class, helping to offset costs and enhance educational opportunities for Stillwater’s agricultural students.
