Steve Guerdat Wins First 5* Grand Prix at Leipzig as Michael Jung Nearly Catches Him

Steve Guerdat and Albfuehren’s Iashin Sitte secured a commanding victory in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Grand Prix at Leipzig, clocking 42.21 seconds to claim their first 5* Grand Prix win. Guerdat, a three-time World Cup champion known for his consistent top-tier performances, was closely pursued by German eventer Michael Jung, who narrowly missed beating Guerdat’s time by just three hundredths of a second on his 9-year-old horse Fischerheros Z, finishing sixth overall due to a rail fault.

Both Guerdat and Jung boast impressive resumes as former world number ones, Olympic gold medalists, and European champions in their respective disciplines. Guerdat currently ranks 10th in the World Cup standings with 29 points, while the league leader is Richard Vogel. The World Cup circuit continues with upcoming events, including the next leg in Amsterdam and the 2026 Final scheduled for Fort Worth, Texas.
