Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Sovereignty is the heavy favorite for the Aug. 23 Travers Stakes at Saratoga, aiming for his fourth consecutive win and fifth of the year. Coming off a strong victory in the Jim Dandy Stakes with a career-best speed figure, Sovereignty will start from post 4 in the $1.25 million race. Second choice Magnitude, recovering from ankle surgery, looks to prove his dominant Iowa Derby win was no fluke, while Chad Brown’s Strategic Focus seeks his first Travers win after a close third in the Curlin Stakes.

Rounding out the field are longshots McAfee, who has placed in three graded stakes but underperformed recently, and Bracket Buster, aiming for his first graded stakes victory after finishing fourth in the Haskell Stakes. The Travers Stakes promises a competitive 1 1/4 mile test among these five contenders.
