Sovereignty Dominates Jim Dandy Stakes, Solidifying Top 3-Year-Old Status

Sovereignty solidified his status as the top 3-year-old racehorse in the U.S. by winning the Grade 2, $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Springs, adding to his previous Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes victories. Ridden by jockey Júnior Alvarado and trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Sovereignty raced strategically behind the early leader Mo Plex before making a decisive move in the stretch to win by one length over Baeza. This victory marked Sovereignty’s fifth graded stakes win from eight starts, boosting his career earnings to over $5.1 million.

Trainer Bill Mott, who earned his fifth Jim Dandy win with Sovereignty, noted the horse’s relaxed demeanor in training leading up to the race, which proved beneficial. Mott expressed his desire to capture the prestigious Travers Stakes next, a race that has eluded him throughout his career. Sovereignty’s performance in the Jim Dandy further cements his position as a leading contender for the upcoming Travers Stakes on August 23.
