Sovereignty Dominates Jim Dandy Stakes, Eyes Travers Stakes Victory

Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner, dominated the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga, reinforcing his status as the top 3-year-old dirt horse in the country. Despite a slow start and being positioned near the back in mid-stretch, Sovereignty surged ahead to win decisively, marking his third consecutive victory over rival Baeza. Jockey Junior Alvarado expressed strong confidence in the horse’s ability, noting that he eased up during the race because he believed Sovereignty was simply superior.

Looking ahead, Sovereignty’s connections, including trainer Bill Mott and Godolphin USA’s Michael Banahan, confirmed the horse’s next target is the prestigious Travers Stakes on August 23. The added distance of 1 1/4 miles is expected to suit Sovereignty well, and with a deep class of 3-year-olds, he continues to prove himself as potentially the best dirt horse in the nation.
