South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden Signs Multiple Bills to Strengthen Election Integrity, Healthcare, Education, and Public Safety in 2026

South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden has been actively signing a wide range of bills into law throughout early 2026, focusing on election integrity, rural health care, criminal justice, workforce development, and government transparency. Notably, on March 5, 2026, he signed six election integrity bills aimed at enhancing voter eligibility verification, ballot transparency, and recount procedures, emphasizing South Dakota’s commitment to secure and trustworthy elections. Additionally, Rhoden has supported rural health initiatives by approving funding for recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, as well as appropriations for emergency and disaster response, higher education facility improvements, and workforce apprenticeship programs.

Governor Rhoden has also championed legislation protecting Second Amendment rights, such as deregulating firearm suppressors, and strengthening emergency medical services by providing liability protections for EMS personnel. He has demonstrated a preference for federal solutions on issues like SNAP reform, vetoing state-level waivers in favor of consistent national policy. Throughout the legislative session, Rhoden has signed over 90 bills into law, covering diverse areas including tax modifications, municipal governance, open government transparency, agricultural regulations, and public safety, while maintaining a focus on fiscal responsibility, administrative practicality, and preserving South Dakota’s values.
