Somerset Horse Rescue Centre Nears Record Rehomings Despite Flood Closure

Despite severe flooding in January that forced the temporary closure of World Horse Welfare’s Glenda Spooner Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Somerset, the centre is on track for a record number of horse and pony rehomings this year. Nearly 60 equines have been rehomed in the past eight months, many in pairs, inspiring staff to describe the year as having a “Noah’s Ark” theme. Several rescued ponies, including previously unhandled and frightened animals, have been successfully rehabilitated and placed in new homes, often alongside companions they arrived with or bonded with during recovery.

The centre continues to care for horses still needing homes, such as the gentle giant Thoroughbred gelding ‘Earl of Wisdom’ and the three-year-old ‘Arlo,’ both seeking loving companion homes. The staff’s patient and expert handling has been key to rehabilitating these animals, many of whom arrived in poor condition or with difficult backgrounds. Interested adopters can find more information on rehoming through World Horse Welfare’s website.
