The opening session of the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale showcased strong demand and impressive results, highlighted by a Snitzel colt out of dual Group 1 winner Amarelinha topping the day at $850,000. Purchased by Chris Waller and Guy Mulcaster, the colt carries significant pedigree value, being the last foal of Amarelinha who died shortly after foaling. The session saw robust bidding across elite yearlings, with 207 sold at a 77% clearance rate, a 43% increase in aggregate sales year-on-year, and strong international interest from Australia, Hong Kong, and New Zealand buyers.
Other notable highlights included a $675,000 Super Seth colt from a distinguished family, a $600,000 Proisir colt related to Group 1 winner and sire Grunt, and strong sales for progeny of Darley’s new sire Anamoe, who led the sire averages with an average of $475,000. Waikato’s champion sire Savabeel also attracted attention with a $550,000 colt sold to a Chinese buyer. Overall, the sale reflected a healthy and selective market, with buyers confident in the quality and pedigree of the yearlings offered.
