Shadai Corporation announced the surprising return of Shahryar to its stallion roster for the 2026 covering season at Shadai Stallion Station. Shahryar, a son of Deep Impact and winner of prestigious races including the 2021 Japanese Derby (G1) and 2022 Dubai Sheema Classic (G1), had initially retired to stud in 2025 but was pensioned due to low fertility rates. However, after successful trial coverings in the Southern Hemisphere showed improved fertility comparable to other stallions, Shadai decided to reinstate him for breeding at a stud fee of ¥2 million (approximately US$12,802).
Shahryar, purchased for $1.1 million as a foal and notable for his strong racing record including top finishes in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2023 and 2024, will now resume his stud career following veterinary confirmation of his restored fertility. This development highlights a rare case of a stallion overcoming initial fertility challenges to return to active breeding duty.
