At the Pushkar Cattle Fair in Ajmer, a two-and-a-half-year-old Marwari stallion named Shahbaz from Chandigarh became a major attraction, valued at ₹15 crore. Known for his shiny coat, tall frame, and royal demeanor, Shahbaz hails from a champion bloodline and has won several shows. His owner, Gary Gill, revealed a breeding fee of ₹2 lakh, though offers up to ₹9 crore have been made, underscoring the horse’s high worth. Alongside Shahbaz, other notable animals included Anmol, a buffalo from Rajasthan worth ₹23 crore and treated like royalty, and Badal, a stallion valued at ₹11 crore with 285 colts to his name.
While Shahbaz’s breeding fee is impressive locally, it pales compared to the top global stallions in 2025. Leading the world are England’s Dubawi and Frankel, each commanding £350,000 (₹4.11 crore) per covering, followed by Ireland’s Wootton Bassett (€300,000/₹3.08 crore) and Sea The Stars (€250,000/₹2.57 crore). In the US, stallions like Into Mischief, Justify, and Gun Runner each command $250,000 (₹2.20 crore). Other notable elite stallions include Siyouni from France, Curlin from the USA, and Lope de Vega from Ireland, reflecting the high stakes and prestige of international thoroughbred breeding.
