Sewickley Harvest Festival Brings Community Together with Horses, Crafts, and Family Fun

The 34th annual Sewickley Harvest Festival, held on September 6 and organized by the Rotary Club of Quaker Valley and Kiwanis Club of Sewickley, brought together around 6,000 attendees despite some morning rain. The event featured over 130 vendors, including artisans, food providers, nonprofits, and political candidates, with popular attractions such as Allegheny County Police’s mounted patrol horse Jimbo, children’s activities like face painting by local Key Club members, and a fire safety demonstration by volunteer firefighters. The festival fostered a strong community spirit, with families enjoying games, food, and opportunities to support local causes.

A notable vendor was Mittens for Memories, a small business creating hand-sewn mittens from upcycled wool to honor the founder’s late brother who had Alzheimer’s. The business has donated about $62,000 to Alzheimer’s research over nine years and serves as a therapeutic outreach for caregivers and families affected by the disease. The festival’s history dates back to the 1940s as a farmers’ event and was revived in the 1980s by the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, evolving into a broad community celebration that highlights local culture, crafts, and public safety.
