Parts of Queensland experienced heavy downpours of more than 100 millimetres on Wednesday due to the remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Dianne. Dramatic footage was released of a man and his horse being rescued from a flooded creek on the Landsborough Highway, three kilometres west of Tambo. The man was swept off the road and waited on top of his 4WD until emergency services arrived.
In NSW, a man in his 70s remains missing after being swept away in floodwaters while trying to drive across a flooded causeway. The dangerous wet weather is expected to shift to northern and eastern Queensland on Thursday, with major flooding continuing in the west. The floods have covered an area the size of NSW, leading to significant livestock losses and fears of long-term recovery for affected communities.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli is working with the federal government to assist communities affected by the floods, with repairing fencing among the priorities. Assistance grants of up to $75,000 have been announced for affected primary producers, as the state faces challenges in rebuilding infrastructure and recovering from the devastating impact of the floods.
