Settle Carlisle Railway Names Eden Riding for the Disabled Charity of the Year 2026

The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company has named Eden Riding for the Disabled as its charity of the year for 2026, following a nomination by volunteer Sue Barnes. The charity provides therapeutic horse riding and carriage driving for individuals with physical, learning, and emotional disabilities, helping improve their balance, coordination, confidence, and social skills. The railway company plans to raise funds through activities involving staff, volunteers, and passengers to support the charity’s work in offering safe and inclusive riding experiences.

Eden Riding for the Disabled, run entirely by volunteers and reliant on donations and grants, serves both adult and junior riders from local schools and community centers. Chair Rebecca Kemp highlighted the importance of this support, noting that the group hosts up to 26 riders per session who benefit from interaction with steady ponies and dedicated volunteers. The partnership reflects the railway’s commitment to community inclusion and accessibility, aiming to enhance the wellbeing of people across the region.
