School Bus Crashes into Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center Property, Causing Extensive Damage but No Injuries

The Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center (CTRC) is seeking community support after a St. Vrain Valley School District bus, avoiding a three-car crash on Colo. 52, veered onto its property Monday evening, damaging fences, a utility pole, the front gate, and signage. Fortunately, no clients, staff, volunteers, or horses were injured, though the incident left many shaken. The center estimates repair costs around $20,000 and is directing some funds from its ongoing “Paint the Pony” campaign toward these damages. The crash also caused a temporary power outage, disrupting water supply to the horses, which staff managed manually.

CTRC Executive Director Michele Bruhn emphasized the near-miss with horses and the emotional impact on those who witnessed the event, including children. She highlighted the ongoing safety concerns with Colo. 52, noting this is not the first crash near the center. Despite the damage and distress, the center continues its equine-assisted therapy programs, underscoring the importance of community support to recover and maintain its mission for individuals with disabilities.
