Savabeel, a multiple champion sire, is being inducted into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame for his contributions to the racing and stud industries. The 23-year-old stallion had a successful racing career, winning the Cox Plate and Spring Champion Stakes, before becoming a dominant stallion in New Zealand.
Since retiring, Savabeel has sired numerous successful horses, with 35 group 1 winners among his progeny. He has a total of 1,752 foals, with 988 winners to date. His success has been attributed to his ability to produce winners at all ages and distances.
Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick praised Savabeel’s achievements, noting that he has the potential to break Zabeel’s record for individual stakes winners. With a dedicated team caring for him, including stallion grooms Dave O’Leary and Ryan Figgins, Savabeel’s legacy as a legendary stallion is secure.
