Santa Anita hosts two key stakes races for 3-year-olds: the Grade 2 San Vicente for colts and the listed Santa Ynez for fillies. The San Vicente, a seven-furlong dirt race, has historically been a stepping stone for Kentucky Derby contenders despite not awarding Derby points. Notable past winners include Nyquist and Bob Baffert trainees like Nadal and Concert Tour. This year’s San Vicente features five entrants, including two from Baffert (Greenwich Village and Buetane) and two from Doug O’Neill (Acknowledgemeplz and Thirsty Rebel), with Buetane favored on the morning line.
The Santa Ynez, also seven furlongs on dirt, is the only U.S. Kentucky Oaks points prep under one mile, awarding points to the top five finishers. It has produced champions like Plum Pretty, Unique Bella, and Midnight Bisou. This year’s field includes five fillies, with Bob Baffert entering three top contenders: Explora (Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up), Bottle of Rouge, and Himika. Other notable runners include John Sadler’s Revera and Mark Glatt’s La Wally. Both races will be broadcast on FanDuel TV, with expert handicappers providing insights and wagering strategies.
