The Saint Aelred’s Pilgrim Trail has launched a new 50-mile circular Horse Riders’ Route, created in partnership with the Ryedale Bridleways Group and supported by the British Horse Society. The trail, celebrated with a launch event at Rievaulx Abbey, offers a scenic journey through the North York Moors, linking nine historic churches and the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. The launch featured 22 riders, led by local bridleway experts, who rode through picturesque villages, historic sites, and autumn landscapes, culminating in a festive gathering at the Abbey with medieval reenactors and volunteers.
Peter Wright, star of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet, officially opened the trail by cutting the ribbon amid cheers from supporters and visitors. The event included photography by Val Mather, a walk led by local pathfinders, and hospitality at the Abbey Café. Organisers expressed gratitude to English Heritage and all volunteers for their contributions, marking the launch as a significant milestone for the Saint Aelred’s Pilgrim Trail community.
