The RSPCA is urging residents in Wiltshire to be mindful of the distress fireworks cause to pets, horses, livestock, and wildlife during the upcoming fireworks season. Following tragic incidents last year where a horse was seriously injured and a dog killed due to fireworks, the charity has launched its Help Quieten the Noise campaign. This initiative encourages people to communicate with neighbors about planned displays and take protective measures for animals. Polling indicates over six million households in England and Wales plan to use fireworks, with two-thirds of pet owners worried about the impact of home displays.
The RSPCA is calling for stricter regulations, including lowering maximum noise levels, restricting sales to licensed retailers, creating firework-free zones, and promoting organized, low-impact displays or alternatives like drone shows. They also encourage people to advocate for these changes by contacting local councils or MPs and offer advice on being considerate neighbors. Additionally, the charity has partnered with Classic FM to broadcast calming music for pets during Bonfire Night. More information and guidance for animal owners are available on the RSPCA website.
