RSPCA Successfully Rescues Mare and Foal After Initial Aborted Attempt in Brynmawr

In the Brynmawr area, a mare and her foal were discovered alongside two deceased ponies, having strayed onto private land from nearby commons. The RSPCA was alerted on May 9 and attempted a rescue that day, but environmental conditions and the mare’s poor health necessitated postponing the operation.

Over the following weeks, the RSPCA and volunteers monitored the pair, providing essential care like hay and water while arrangements for a specialized rescue team were made. On May 21, a multi-agency team successfully executed the rescue, with RSPCA inspector Suzanne Smith highlighting the risks involved in the initial attempt.

Following the rescue, the mare had moved to derelict farmland with better grazing, improving her condition. The RSPCA is now seeking information about the mare and foal’s possible owner, urging anyone with knowledge to contact them.
