The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the body of a black and white horse was found dumped on a grass verge in Slacky Lane, Walsall, just days before Christmas. The horse’s legs and neck were tied with blue rope, and investigators believe it was transported in a trailer or truck before being callously left at the roadside. Although the horse showed no obvious wounds, it is unclear whether it was alive or dead when abandoned. The charity condemned the irresponsible disposal, describing it as distressing and suspicious, and is appealing for information about the horse’s ownership and circumstances.
The incident highlights a troubling rise in animal abandonment cases, with the RSPCA reporting a 23% increase in such incidents in the first ten months of 2024 compared to the previous year. The charity noted that the cost of properly disposing of dead horses often leads to them being discarded like rubbish. With over 24,000 abandonment reports made to the RSPCA’s emergency line this year, the organization warns of a potentially grim winter for pets and urges the public to come forward with any information to help prevent further cruelty.
