RSPCA Investigates After Horse Found Dumped and Tied on Roadside in Walsall

The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the body of a black and white horse was found dumped by the roadside on Slacky Lane in Walsall just days before Christmas. The horse’s legs and neck were tied with blue rope, and investigators suspect it was transported in a trailer or truck and then left tied to a post before being abandoned. Although the horse showed no obvious wounds, it is unclear whether it was dead or alive when dumped. The charity is seeking information about the circumstances and ownership, describing the disposal as suspicious and distressing.

This incident highlights a broader issue, as the RSPCA reports a sharp rise in animal abandonment cases, with a 23% increase in the first ten months of 2024 compared to the previous year. The charity notes that the cost of proper disposal often leads to dead horses being discarded like rubbish. With over 24,000 abandonment incidents reported so far this year, the RSPCA warns of a potentially grim winter for pets and urges the public to report any information confidentially.
