Robert N. Clay was honored by the Thoroughbred Club of America in 2025 for his lifelong commitment to the Thoroughbred industry and Central Kentucky’s Bluegrass region. Starting with the purchase of 100 acres along Old Frankfort Pike, Clay and his wife Blythe developed Three Chimneys Farm into a premier breeding and racing operation, home to legendary stallions like Seattle Slew and multiple classic winners. Beyond breeding top horses, Clay emphasized the importance of a dedicated team and has been recognized for his leadership roles in industry organizations, as well as his efforts to conserve farmland critical to the sport’s future.
Clay also co-founded the Henry Clay Center to promote civil discourse and has been a vocal advocate for integrity in racing, supporting the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) to ensure fairness and trust in the sport. His dedication extends beyond racing to land conservation, having helped protect tens of thousands of acres in Central Kentucky. Celebrated for both his business acumen and personal character, Clay’s influence spans breeding, racing, community leadership, and environmental stewardship, earning him deep respect across the Thoroughbred world.
