The family of the late Richard “Dick” Morris honored his legacy by creating the Impact of 4-H Award, presented for the first time before the 2025 Battle of the Barns event. Dick, who grew up on a dairy farm in Claypool and was deeply involved in 4-H from childhood through adulthood, dedicated much of his life to raising and showing livestock, including cattle, horses, and sheep. His passion for 4-H extended to his family, with his children and grandchildren actively participating, and he contributed as a volunteer and barn superintendent. The award recognizes Kosciusko County 4-H members who demonstrate significant involvement and the positive impact 4-H has had on their lives, reflecting Dick’s values of learning by doing and striving to make the best better.
In its inaugural year, the Richard Morris Impact of 4-H Memorial Award was given to Eva Everest and Kaleb Kline, both 10-year members, selected by the Morris family based on criteria important to Dick. The award celebrates the lifelong skills and cherished memories that 4-H imparted to Dick and aims to inspire current youth to continue his legacy of dedication, education, and community involvement within the 4-H program.
