Dennis Roche, also known as Ginger, has made a significant impact on the WA breeding scene in just a few years of selling yearlings. His filly Reinette, sold for $15,000, went on to win $190,000 plus bonuses in her debut season, potentially earning her the title of Australian 2YO filly of the year. Another filly, Bettagetonpip, won five races and $88,000 for a syndicate of owners.
Roche, a 78-year-old with over 60 years of experience in harness racing, offered four fillies at the 2023 APG Yearling Sale, with Reinette and Bettagetonpip achieving notable success in 2YO classic races. Roche’s breeding operation, which consists of just five broodmares, has produced impressive results, with Reinette and Bettagetonpip showcasing his breeding prowess.
Roche, who has been involved in training horses since the age of 14, has shifted his focus to commercial breeding in recent years. He will be offering a colt and a filly at the 2025 APG Perth Yearling Sale, with the colt from a top mare by Sweet Lou and the filly from a Mach Three mare with a strong racing pedigree.
