Two young pregnant fillies, Sugar and Spice, have been rescued by the Horses and Ponies Protection Association (HAPPA) after a difficult start in life. Both two-year-olds arrived at HAPPA’s Shores Hey Farm unhandled and under sedation, initially showing no interest in food and wary of human contact. With patience and gentle care, the team was able to conduct full veterinary checks, revealing that both fillies are pregnant—Sugar being over 100 days along and Spice in the early stages of pregnancy.
Since their arrival, Sugar has settled in well, forming bonds with the care team and showing a sweet, inquisitive nature, while Spice remains more nervous but is gradually learning to trust humans again. HAPPA’s equine care supervisor expressed hope and excitement for their futures, emphasizing the resilience of ponies who have endured hardship and the joy of seeing them recover and thrive in a loving environment.
