Rescue Racehorse Rí Retrained to Excel in Dressage by Aoife Brady-Dolan

Aoife Brady-Dolan, a dressage rider from Cavan, is retraining her former racehorse Rí to become a skilled dressage competitor. Living and training in Killinkere with her husband Darrell, Aoife has successfully transitioned Rí from racing to dressage, recently competing at the Novice level and representing Ireland at the Senior Home Nations in England. Despite Rí’s spirited Thoroughbred nature, Aoife has built a strong bond with him, focusing on trust and precise training in their custom-built arena, which has helped Rí achieve notable successes including awards at national dressage events.

Their journey highlights the challenges and rewards of retraining racehorses for new disciplines, supported by the non-profit Treo Eile, which aids in rehoming and retraining retired racehorses. Aoife credits her coaches and the equestrian community for their encouragement and looks forward to resuming eventing competitions with Rí, balancing her riding ambitions with family life after the birth of their daughter.
