Rescue Horse Cinch Shines at Washington County Fair with Rider Colbie Westbrook

Gina Batten, a Washington County resident, rescued a 7-year-old American Quarter Horse named Cinch nearly a year ago after he was surrendered by his owners from Arizona in poor condition. Batten and her granddaughter Colbie Westbrook nursed Cinch back to health, gaining nearly 700 pounds and discovering his friendly personality despite previous claims of aggression. Cinch has since competed successfully in multiple horse shows, including qualifying in four categories at the Ohio State Fair, where they even participated in a costume contest dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz.

Colbie Westbrook, who has been riding since infancy, has formed a special bond with Cinch, riding him at events such as the Washington County Fair on Labor Day. Batten, an experienced horsewoman with a family history in 4-H and horse showing, expressed pride in Cinch’s recovery and achievements, noting his improved demeanor and courage. Cinch’s transformation from a neglected rescue to a celebrated show horse highlights the dedication and care provided by Batten and Westbrook.
