Rescue Groups Join Forces to Capture Loose Horses in Peotone

Two local rescue groups are working together to capture several horses that escaped a pen at an area barn and have been on the loose near I-57 since Saturday. Crews from Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County and HHH Ranch have been working with the Will County Sheriff’s Office to corral the yearlings, with four captured and four still sought as of early Wednesday. Confusion surrounds the number of horses that escaped, the owner’s involvement, and the agencies leading the search efforts.

Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County and HHH Ranch provided an update on Wednesday, stating that they have been actively involved in the search for the escaped horses. They urge that efforts to capture the horses should be left to them, as the horses are in flight mode and will flee from abrupt movements. Once captured, the horses will be placed on a mandatory hold and undergo quarantine and vet evaluations before being listed for adoption or placed in training.

The rescues are overwhelmed with phone calls, emails, and messages, and ask for patience as they work through the responses. They stress the importance of contacting Christine Doran at HHH Ranch with any sightings of the loose horses, and encourage people to text first before calling. Exact locations of sightings will not be provided on social media to prevent outsiders from interfering with the capture efforts.
