The Remus Horse Sanctuary in Essex successfully hosted its inaugural Red Carpet Charity Gala Evening at Elstree Film Studios on November 15, 2025, raising over £22,000 to fund the construction of a specialized ‘Gala Paddock’ for horses suffering from laminitis. The sold-out event combined Hollywood glamour with heartfelt stories of equine rescue, featuring exotic cuisine, live entertainment, and a charity auction. The funds raised will support the creation of a purpose-built facility designed to provide tailored care and a supportive environment for horses affected by this painful and debilitating hoof condition.
Founded over 40 years ago by Sue Burton, Remus Horse Sanctuary specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating neglected and elderly horses, particularly those with complex health issues like laminitis. The gala’s success highlights the strong community support for the Sanctuary’s mission and the importance of fundraising events in sustaining its work, as it receives no government funding. The Gala Paddock project represents a significant enhancement in care quality, ensuring better management and comfort for vulnerable horses, while the Sanctuary continues to welcome ongoing donations, sponsorships, and volunteer support.
