Remsen Stakes 2023 Preview: Talkin and Paladin Set for Aqueduct Duel

The 2023 Remsen Stakes (G2) showcased a thrilling stretch duel between Dornoch and Sierra Leone, with Dornoch narrowly winning. Both horses went on to become multiple Grade 1 winners the following year, with Dornoch capturing the Belmont Stakes and Sierra Leone winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the 3-year-old championship. This year’s Remsen Stakes, set for December 6 at Aqueduct Racetrack, features a similar rivalry between trainer Danny Gargan’s Talkin, a Good Magic colt and Champagne Stakes runner-up, and Chad Brown’s Paladin, a Gun Runner colt and $1.9 million debut winner.

Talkin, known for his laid-back style, is primed for a strong return after skipping the Breeders’ Cup to target the Remsen, while Paladin has shown impressive growth and potential despite a disqualification win in his debut. The race, offering $250,000 and Kentucky Derby qualifying points, also includes notable contenders from Todd Pletcher’s stable, making it a key early test for these promising juveniles on the path to major 3-year-old races.
