Remembering Patricia M. Smith: A Life of Horses, Family, and Community in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley

Patricia M. Smith, a beloved Lewiston-Clarkston Valley resident and passionate barrel racer and horse enthusiast, passed away on November 16, 2025. Born Patricia Marie Duffy on January 17, 1943, in Mapleton Depot, Pennsylvania, she grew up in a close-knit family with her parents and sister. Her early life included a move to Niagara Falls, New York, where she met her future husband, Ken, through their shared love of horses.

Their bond over horses led to a lifelong partnership, marriage, and a journey across Oregon and Washington, where they raised a family and nurtured their equestrian passions. Settling in Clarkston for the last 47 years, Patricia not only built a home and family with Ken but also made a name for herself in the barrel racing community, leaving a lasting legacy in the valley.
