Kitty Cotter, who passed away in January 2024, was fondly remembered as the “heart and soul” of the Dunmanway Agricultural Show, having served as its secretary for nearly 27 years. Renowned for her equine knowledge and calm demeanor, she was deeply involved in the local agricultural and horse communities, including a 16-year tenure on the Irish Shows Association board and a key role in the Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association. Her dedication extended beyond the show, as she also worked as a home help for 20 years and contributed to reviving arts and crafts at the Cork Summer Show.
A native of Newcestown, Kitty’s lifelong passion for horses was shared with her late husband Billy and their children, with a family legacy highlighted by multiple generations winning prestigious horse championships. Recognized with a Southern Star West Cork Farming Award in 2023, Kitty’s commitment, warmth, and expertise left a lasting impact on the agricultural community. She is survived by her six children, grandchildren, and extended family, with heartfelt condolences expressed by the Dunmanway Show committee.
