Red Flag Warning and Lake Wind Advisory in Effect for Western Nevada and Eastern Sierra Until Evening

A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 11 PM PDT this evening for parts of western Nevada and the eastern Sierra due to gusty west winds of 20-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph combined with very low humidity levels between 5-15%. These conditions, lasting 3 to 9 hours, significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires. Residents are advised to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires, and to follow local fire restrictions and preparedness guidance.

Additionally, a Lake Wind Advisory is active from 1 PM to 10 PM PDT this evening for several lakes and reservoirs in California’s Mono County and western Nevada, including Pyramid Lake and Mono Lake. West winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected, creating 1 to 3-foot waves on Pyramid Lake. Boaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders are warned of hazardous conditions that could lead to capsizing and are advised to check conditions before heading out or postpone water activities until winds subside.
