Record €6.43 Million Funding Awarded to 94 Animal Welfare Charities Including Eight in Galway

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has allocated a total of €250,000 in funding to eight animal welfare organizations in Galway, with the Galway Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) receiving €96,750. The remaining funds were distributed among MADRA (€40,000), Pro Animale Ireland, Renvyle Cat and Dog Rescue, Fellenberg Foundation Ireland, Forgotten Horses Ireland, Galway and Claddagh Swan Rescue, and Galway Cat Rescue. These groups are part of a nationwide cohort of 94 charities awarded a combined €6.43 million under the Animal Welfare Grants Programme, marking the highest funding allocation ever granted by the department.

Minister Heydon emphasized the government’s commitment to animal welfare and expressed gratitude to the charities’ staff and volunteers for their dedication. The funding prioritizes organizations with proven success in rehoming animals, public education, and preventative welfare guidance. Recipients like MADRA have publicly thanked the department, highlighting how the grants enable them to provide veterinary care and support for animals transitioning to new homes.
