RDA Barwon Opens Stables to Public, Celebrates 50 Years of Free Therapeutic Horse-Riding for Children

RIDING for the Disabled Association (RDA) Barwon, a volunteer-led program in Wallington, provides free therapeutic horse-riding lessons to primary school-aged children with various disabilities. Celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, the program relies entirely on community donations, as it receives no government or NDIS funding. To thank donors and engage the public, RDA Barwon is hosting a morning tea event on September 4 at Wallington Park Equestrian Centre, where attendees can observe riding lessons and learn about the program’s impact.

The program has significantly boosted participants’ confidence, emotional support, and social skills, as shared by parents of children involved for several years. With 36 participants currently, RDA Barwon is actively seeking new volunteers to assist during sessions, emphasizing that prior horse experience is not necessary. The dedication of volunteers is highly praised by families, highlighting the nurturing environment that helps children thrive through therapeutic riding.
