The RCMP is holding its sixth annual online auction through the Government of Canada’s GCSurplus program, offering 16 Hanoverian horses bred for the iconic Musical Ride, along with over 70 doses of horse semen for artificial insemination. While not all foals meet the strict criteria to perform in the Musical Ride, these horses are still highly valued for their exceptional temperament, athleticism, and prestigious lineage, making them suitable for various equestrian disciplines. Notable horses up for sale include Vimy, a confident filly, and Legal, an 11-year-old mare with excellent jumping ability but no longer suited for the Musical Ride due to physical limitations.
The RCMP’s breeding program, established in 1939, focuses on producing calm, well-built black Hanoverians trained extensively for the Musical Ride, a tradition dating back to 1901. The auction proceeds support the continuation of this breeding program, allowing buyers to own a piece of Canadian equestrian history. Bidding starts at $5,000 for horses and $100 for breeding doses, with the auction closing on October 7 and 8.
