Rare Norwegian Fjord Horses Take Dunedin by Storm: Viking-Themed Photoshoot Raises Awareness

Fans of the Norwegian fjord horse recently gathered at Dunedin’s Warrington Beach and Baldwin St for a Viking-themed photo shoot to raise awareness of the rare breed. The NZ Fjords group is collecting photos of the horses through themed shoots to showcase their origins in Norway.

The group, led by president Megan Hopkinson, rode the horses in Viking-style garb created by local designers. The photos will be used to promote the Norwegian fjord horse breed at events across New Zealand, including the upcoming Equisouth event in Otago.

The Rare Horse Society of New Zealand aims to bring together endangered horse breeds like the Norwegian fjord horse at events to educate the public and promote conservation efforts. The society hopes to host a yearly Norwegian Viking festival in the South Canterbury/North Otago area to celebrate the heritage of the horses and Norwegian culture.
