Rachael Blackmore, the celebrated Irish jockey known for her historic wins including the Gold Cup and Grand National, announced her retirement in May 2025. Throughout her career, she broke barriers as the first female rider to win prestigious races like the Goffs Thyestes Chase and earned the Top Jockey Award. Raised on a dairy farm in Tipperary, Blackmore’s passion for horses began early, and despite challenges with dyslexia, she pursued equine science and a successful jockey career. Beyond racing, she authored a children’s book titled Granny National and has been active in brand partnerships since retiring.
In retirement, Blackmore is embracing a new pace of life, enjoying time with family and friends, and exploring opportunities outside the racing world. She credits her partner, fellow jockey Brian Hayes, for his crucial support throughout her career. While her father jokes about missing her busy racing schedule, Rachael is relishing the freedom to engage in social activities and new ventures, marking a significant transition from her intense sporting life to a more balanced personal and professional chapter.
