Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighted the importance of preserving the traditional Punjab horse breed, a vital part of the region’s heritage, during the Punjab Horse Breed Heritage Show in Patiala. He praised the event’s role in educating the younger generation about indigenous breeds and referenced historical ties of horses in Indian culture, emphasizing their significance in both warfare and peace. The governor expressed concern over the gradual extinction of several horse breeds and stressed the need to protect breeds like Punjab and Kathiawari, noting the deep bond between horses and their caretakers and the economic potential of horse breeding.
Governor Kataria appreciated the efforts of organiser Prof Sumaer Singh Sira and the participation of Punjab breed horses from across the state. He acknowledged horse breeding as a challenging yet promising business and praised the dedication of breeders who treat horses like family. The event underscored the cultural and historical value of horses in India, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding this legacy for future generations.
